Welcome to the first edition of the MHD Financial blog!
We get asked all the time about a litany of topics, and whether it’s as serious as financial planning or as fun as the Spurs and BBQ, one thing we have in droves are opinions. We’re hoping that this is a place where we can share a little of both.
The first opinion that we’ll share is one that we hope you’ll keep in mind when hearing any sort of mass communication, whether it’s radio, television, or the internet: always remember, just because something has been published or said into a microphone doesn’t mean that it’s relevant to your specific circumstances! It seems every time we turn on the computer, tv or radio we get bombarded with pieces that have titles like “The Five Things Every Retiree Should Know,” or “Saving Tips You Must Have In Your Portfolio,” or worse yet, “You HAVE to Check This Out Before Smoking a Brisket.” When you see headlines like these, just remember that while there may be good information inside, there are very few universal rules that must be taken as gospel for everyone. (Except for brisket. You must smoke a brisket with the fat side up. We aren’t willing to negotiate this point.)
The most important thing to keep at the top of your mind is that, whether we’re talking finances or food, your decisions and advice must be specifically tailored to you. There is no single answer or panacea, so always make sure you have taken the time to really understand the decisions that you make and how they impact your specific circumstances. What’s good for some is rarely good for all. Thinking through these decisions is critical to your success, not only in financial planning, but also smoking a brisket. It’s one of the reasons that we love what we do at MHD Financial, whether we’re helping with financial planning decisions or trading BBQ recipes. If you didn’t quite get the smoke ring that you wanted on that last rack of ribs, or if you’ve been bombarded with financial information the way that most people have and you can’t make heads or tails of it, give us a call. We’d love to see you.
